Levi
Levi is a year-round resort in Sirkka village, Kittilä municipality, Finland, about 170 km north of the Arctic Circle. Levi is primarily known for its skiing resort, but it also offers much more for every season.
Downhill skiing
Levi is known for its skiing resort. 44 slopes and 26 lifts offer skiers of all levels an excellent setting. The first slopes open in October, and the skiing season continues until the beginning of May.
The front slopes are easily accessible from the village. The southern slopes (8.x) offer easy and especially sunny slopes in spring. The Southeast slopes (7.x) are also easy wide slopes and less crowded than the South slopes. The northeastern slopes (5.x - 6.x) are more challenging, long slopes, which remain in good condition even in the spring sun. Among the western slopes (12.x-14x + W + G) you can find e.g. Levi Black, where the Levi World Cup races are contested.
Cross country skiing
Levi also offers excellent conditions for cross-country skiing. In the immediate vicinity of Levi there are tens of kilometers of renovated skiing tracks. Levi's skiing tracks connect to those of Ylläs, so all in all there are more than 200 km of skiing tracks available.
Something else to do
When you want a change from downhill skiing or cross-country skiing, rent a fat bike and go around winter trails. Or if you want to go further, rent a snowmobile and go around the sledding routes. If you need relaxation for your tired body, Levi has several wellness services, such as a spa and massage services. If you feel like shopping, there are shops in the center of the village where you can buy local products as well as well-known Finnish and international brand products. Summer
There is something to do in Levi even when there is no snow. You can rent a mountain bike and go around the fell along marked routes. On foot, you can take day trips or go on a hike of several days. You can go swimming in Immeljärvi or Levijärvi. There is a wide range of things to do in the Activity Park. Levi Golf offers an 18-hole course. Go for a ride on Icelandic horses in the fells. Other places
There are many interesting places around Levi. In winter, the Ylläs, Pallas and Olostunturi ski resorts and ski tracks can be found less than an hour's drive away. In the summer, Särkitunturi offers one of Finland's national landscapes, and Pallastunturi offers great hiking trails, both for day trips and multi-day hikes. On the shore of Lake Jerisjärvi is Arctic Sauna World, which offers several different saunas and the opportunity to swim both in summer and winter. On the shore of Pallasjärvi is Punainenhiekka, where there is a fine shallow sandy beach right near Pallastunturi fells.
Seasons
October - November
In October, the first slopes open. You can go skiing on the first snow track. Levi is still quiet. In November, the season gets off to a good start with the Levi World Cup. Foreign tourist groups are starting to arrive.
December
The first season starts in December. Levi gets livelier as we move towards Christmas and the New Year. Polar night starts around 10.12 and ends at the turn of the year. New slopes are opening up and the ski track network is growing.
January - February
This period usually coincides with the coldest times of winter, when the temperature is well below freezing throughout the day. After the turn of the year, it's a quieter time, until mid-February it starts to get lively again due to the school vacation weeks.
March - April
Spring is the busiest time in Lapland. The weather varies from cold frosty nights, when the temperature can be below -20 degrees, to warm sunny days, when the temperature can be several degrees. Easter is the peak of the season, when Levi is absolutely full of people and activities.
May-August
After May Day, Levi quiets down when the slopes close and maintenance of the ski tracks ends. The snow melts by June. Restaurants, shops and service providers take a vacation, some longer, others shorter. The midnight sun period starts at the end of May and ends in the middle of July. The weather can vary from cool to hot.
September
”Ruska” arrives and with it tourists to admire the colorful nature that is preparing for winter. The days may still be sunny and relatively warm, but the amount of light starts to decrease, anticipating the coming dark season.
